April 2013, Frome audiences were treated to a locally produced full length ballet at the Merlin Theatre when Tri-art Dance Academy created a production of the ballet Cinderella.
Review from the Somerset Standard below by Allison and Sophie Herbert:
“With a fantastic set and vibrant costumes and a strong media/animation element , this ballet highlighted the talents of every cast member. The audience was drawn in to the action from the very first moment with the projection of huge clock workings onto the back of the stage even before the first steps had been danced.
It was clear that there was a strong team behind these talented young people of a wide variety of ages from the tiny mice to the older character performers. Amy Morgan-Bell’s choreography was effective in the ensemble sections and showed off the abilities of her dancers and their different characters within the story; the autumn fairy had lots of leaps and turns whilst Cinderella had emotional solos and partner work. Natasha Arcoleo, dancing the title role, had beautiful extensions of her legs and arms and partnered her Prince Charming, danced by Ellis Dackombe, with ease and a lightness of touch. Jess Nicholson and Jasmine Shillabeer, playing Cinderella’s stepsisters, particularly stood out, they delivered very engaging performances with great use of facial expressions and an easy confidence with comedic dancing. They never came out of character and had a great rapport with each other.
